Emergency management of reservoirs and water treatment plants in typhoon season:a case study of Ningbo

Coastal cities represented by Ningbo are directly or indirectly affected by typhoons each year. By analyzing the past three typical typhoons landing in Ningbo from 2013 to 2016, it was found that before and after the typhoon transit, reservoir and water treatment plant would be made by the destructive impact, including the increasing water level, water volume in a short time, and the deteriorating water quality. Among those, the water quality caused by typhoons increased the water treatment process load, the amount of water purification agents increased significantly,and the emergency response put a great pressure on the inventory of water plants. Based on the statistics and analysis of the basic parameters of the reservoir and water treatment plant during the typhoon season, the emergency management of the typhoon was divided into three situations, namely, pre-typhoon, typhoon period and post-typhoon. Thus, it is effective for the relevant practitioners of the reservoir and water plant to ensure the safe water supply during typhoon season.

Constructing ecological system of digital culture industries in the new era

Developing digital culture industries is one of the important social planning strategies in China in the new era.China’s digital culture industries has continued to grow in recent years,but there are still a series of problems such as imperfect industrial ecological chain structure,lack of development and innovation content,and small scale of ecological platform.At this stage,in order to build a sustainable ecological system for the development of digital culture industries in the new era,we should focus on the development of key areas related to digital culture industries,guide the development of industrial agglomeration,cultivate large-scale leading enterprises,strengthen the support of industry chain,build an innovative ecological model,and increase policy support.Only in this way can the digital culture industries be pushed into a benign ecological system as soon as possible and cultivated into a new momentum for the development of China’s culture industries in the new era.

The Belt and Road Initiative and Financing Constraint for Chinese Enterprises

In the context of China’s proactive implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI), unraveling the BRI’s effect on corporate behavior is of vital importance to China’s policymaking on overseas investment. With the BRI’s enactment as a quasi-natural experiment, this paper employs the difference in differences(DID) method to investigate the BRI’s effect on the financing constraint for Chinese enterprises. Our study finds that the BRI’s implementation has significantly reduced financing constraints for BRI enterprises, and the effect is more significant for emerging advantageous industries and export-oriented node cities.

Impact of interest rate changes on Chinese consumer behavior

In 2015, The Central Bank cut interest rates six times in a row. There are two main purposes: one is to reduce the interest burden on corporate loans, and stimulate corporate investment. Second, to reduce interest income on residential deposits, and stimulate residents to increase current consumption. However, many empirical data prove that although the effect of interest rate decline on stimulating corporate investment is more obvious, the effect of stimulating residents to increase current consumption is not obvious, and household savings continue to grow rapidly. This shows that the main factor affecting the current consumption of residents is no longer the bank’s deposit interest rate, but the irreplaceability of future consumer goods for current consumer goods, income restrictions and other economic factors that can affect cross-time consumption. This paper is based on the theory of intertemporal utility maximization. The empirical analysis of the impact of the rate change on China’s residents’ consumption, looking for the reasons why residents’ consumption is not sensitive to changes in the rate, and put forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.

Digital Innovation:Organizational Foundation and Chinese Heterogeneity

The advancement of digital innovation requires a distinctive organizational structure, different from those for non-digital innovation. The research literature, however, has confused appropriate forms of organization for digital innovation with those for nondigital innovation. Organizational heterogeneity, which is often overlooked in research on digital innovation, determines a country's core digital competencies. From a holistic perspective of corporate organization, industrial organization and innovation system, this study has identified the unique organizational structure for digital innovation in China by comparing organizational structures for digital and non-digital innovations. In terms of corporate organization, Chinese companies have intensified internal competition and cooperation to incentivize digital innovation in areas with mid-and short-term goals of profitability. In terms of industrial organization, multi-platform enterprises and diverse use cases may enhance economies of range and multi-path exploration of digital innovation. In terms of innovation system, administrative intervention in specific domains of the digital economy may help to shape expectations of innovation entities and coordinate their behaviors.

The cross section of Chinese commodity futures return

This paper investigates the cross-section of expected commodity futures returns in China using a large panel of 13 individual factors. We find that 6 out of 13 individual factors produce positive and significant returns. To aggregate the information among these factors, we apply not only the traditional Fama-Mac Beth regression(FM), but also a set of alternative methods, including the forecast combination method(FC), principal component analysis(PCA), principle component regression(PCR) and partial least squares(PLS).It turns out that PLS outperform other methods in forecasting the cross-section of Chinese expected futures returns. The equally weighted combination of 5 methods produces an even higher annualized return and lower standard deviation compared to each single method. The investigation of factor importance reveals that the skewness(SKEW) factor is more important than other factors in predicting expected futures returns in Chinese markets.

A Deep Learning Method for Chinese Singer Identification

As a subfield of Multimedia Information Retrieval(MIR), Singer IDentification(SID) is still in the research phase. On one hand, SID cannot easily achieve high accuracy because the singing voice is difficult to model and always disturbed by the background instrumental music. On the other hand, the performance of conventional machine learning methods is limited by the scale of the training dataset. This study proposes a new deep learning approach based on Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM) and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient(MFCC) features to identify the singer of a song in large datasets. The results of this study indicate that LSTM can be used to build a representation of the relationships between different MFCC frames. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves better accuracy for Chinese SID in the MIR-1 K dataset than the traditional approaches.

An empirical study on the relationship between Chinese environmental regulation and economic growth

To achieve sustainable and healthy economic development, it is necessary for Chinese government to regulate the environment. Therefore, it has important significance to study the relationship between environmental regulation and economic growth. This paper deals with the method of measuring the Chinese provincial panel data from 2010 to 2018 to carry on the empirical analysis. The results show that environmental regulation in the eastern region has no significant negative effect for economic growth, to the central and western regions is a significant role in promoting economic growth. Finally, this article puts forward targeted policy suggestions based on the research results.
